RIVER HOUSE

A beautifully appointed lodge boasting rare river frontage on the Chimehuín, within striking distance of plenty more excellent fishing.

An intimate yet opulent off-grid lodge, right on the riverbank.

Owned by Argentinian fishing fanatics and managed by the award winning team behind Tipiliuke Lodge just down the road, River House occupies an enviable setting right on the banks of the Chimehuín. The lodge is situated about 30 minutes’ drive from Chapelco airport, making it a great location from which to explore both the Chimehuín and the other great fishing on offer nearby.

With stunning decor and wonderful food, the River House is a luxurious addition to any Fish Patagonia itinerary.

Fishing

River House’s prime location right on the banks of the Chimehuín give it excellent access to both float and wade this iconic trout river. Guests here have access to Tipiliuke’s 9 miles of private access to the Chimehuín, as well as the 100 metres of riverbank access exclusive to those at the River House. River House’s grounds also contain a trout pond, an excellent practice ground for those looking to hone their casting before heading out on the water.

River House’s relatively accessible location means we can also fish many other rivers and lakes in the area for the day, including the Collon CuraMalleoAluminé or Falkner.

Accommodation

River House is a very impressive building: grand yet very tastefully decorated, with a huge communal living space featuring a fabulous stone fireplace bordered by the dining area and a recently refurbished bar area. The five bedrooms – sleeping up to 10 at a time – are all luxuriously furnished, with lovely high ceilings, beautiful en suites and views of the river.

The outdoor space is no less appealing. A generous terrace wraps around the house with various seating areas, while the fire pit, outside dining area and riverside loungers provide guests with plenty of options to kick back and enjoy the tranquil setting.

Kevin and Mary Jo bring their trademark warm and attentive hosting to the River House, just as they do in neighbouring Tipiliuke.

Dining

Food at River House is served courtesy of highly trained chefs, producing delicious and varied menus, in a change from most of the more traditional food offered by the area’s lodges. There is still the standard exquisite Argentine meat, but menus might include a more international twist.

Wine is as good as you would expect: top class, Argentinian wonders. The River House bar is particularly well stocked and the perfect place to kick back with a pre dinner picada and aperitif before dinner is served.

Off the water

Situated in private land on the Chimehuín, River House has its own horses on the property for guests to enjoy, as well as a charming trout pond a short stroll from the lodge. Massage therapists can be invited out to the house for relaxing afternoons off the river while tango classes can be arranged for evening entertainment, and hiking, mountain biking, rafting and bird watching excursions can all be organised off the property, often at Tipiliuke just down the road.

At around an hour from San Martín de los Andes, River House is just about close enough to town to make a round trip worth it to get to know the local area.
