CASA QUILQUIHUE

A stunning riverside private trout fishing lodge in Patagonia’s pristine fishing paradise, exclusively available to Fish Patagonia guests for private groups.

The jewel in our crown.

Totally unique among all the best lodges in the area, Casa Quilquihue is open to private groups only. In short, it’s your very own, fully catered private luxury fly fishing lodge, right in the heart of the best fly fishing in Northern Patagonia.

Fish Patagonia has exclusive access to this incredible modern house, with private river frontage on the beautiful Quilquihue River from its own back garden. The river offers plenty of pocket water and overhanging trees, ideal for streamer fishing early in the season.

Boasting an enviable location just 30 minutes from the centre of San Martín de los Andes and 10 minutes from Chapelco Airport, we can reach practically all of the water we fish in the region from Casa Quilquihue.

With minimum stays of 3 nights, the Casa can be booked to enjoy as part of a bespoke fly fishing program taking in one or more of our other partner luxury fly fishing lodges. Alternatively, it can be booked for longer stays to really settle in and take advantage of the huge range of great fishing accessible from the privacy and intimate setting of the house.

The angler’s dream.

Casa Quilquihue is the place for you if you’re looking for varied, world-class fishing heaven where you can enjoy complete privacy, exceptional local cuisine and phenomenal fly fishing. Casa Quilquihue is only available for exclusive bookings, whether that be a pair of fishing buddies, a couple, or larger groups of friends or family.

Your private chef sends you off in the morning with a hearty breakfast and a luxury picnic for lunch. After breakfast, you head off with your guide to fly fish the day away. Return home in the evening for a pre-dinner picada (snack) and refreshing drink watching the sunset over the Quilquihue river and catch up on everyone’s tales from the day while your chef whips up dinner.

If you’re happy to have company, your hosts Peter and Holly love to join guests for a few evenings of their trip to get to know everyone personally and hear all about the day’s action on the water.

Never fish the same stretch twice.

While completely secluded with private gardens and river access, Casa Quilquihue is just a few minutes’ drive from the main road. This means we can reach more water from here than from any other lodge we fish from.

Casa Quilquihue is the ideal place to stay if you’re looking to fish the biggest variety of trout water as possible: no two days need be the same. You tell us what you’re looking for, or we can provide you with some of our tried and tested favourite combinations tailored to the season.

Take your pick from any of the lakes we fish and all but two of the rivers, which are accessible only from the private estancias they run through.

Something for everyone.

While the huge range of fly fishing on offer from Casa Quilquihue is one of its most appealing features, that’s certainly not to say you’ll be bored if you do decide to take some time away from the water.

The house is perfectly appointed to enjoy some of the other activities the area has to offer. Town is just a 30-minute drive away, and is lovely to visit for an afternoon’s shopping or an evening meal if you fancy checking out the local nightlife. We can also arrange hikes passing through beautiful native lush forests, mountain biking, lake kayaking or horseback riding off the property with local guides, all with prior notice.

The house is also located a few minutes from the Jack Nicklaus and Jack Nicklaus II golf course, Chapelco, open to Casa Quilquihue guests keen to hit a few holes. Chapelco resort comprises a spa as well as the golf course, open to those looking for a relaxing afternoon away from the fishing.

That being said, just taking some time to enjoy the house, private gardens and river frontage while watching the world go by is certainly not a bad option either.

The height of modern luxury.

Casa Quilquihue comprises three en-suite bedrooms, which can sleep up to 8 people. It’s perfect for those groups or pairs looking for a more private, intimate fishing experience than that offered at regular, communal fishing lodges.

The house also benefits from a spacious open plan kitchen, dining and living area, as well as a separate games and TV room and bar across the courtyard.

And that’s just indoors: al fresco spaces include multiple fire pits and dining areas, a wood-fired hot tub, a dedicated asado (Argentine BBQ) area, and various deckings and seating areas from which to enjoy the evening sun with an aperitif.

Eat like a king.

No trip to our own lodge would be complete without some of the famous cuisine the country is known for. During your stay at Casa Quilquihue, you are catered for by a private chef showcasing some of the best food Argentina has to offer.

Breakfasts are freshly made to order before heading out to fish for the day, three-course lunch picnics are par for the course for a day’s fishing and evening meals are a sumptuous affair. This is preceded by the traditional Argentine picada to go along with your pre-dinner tipple.

Lest we forget, no Argentinian picnic or dinner would be complete without some of those world-famous Malbecs. The house’s open bar is always fully stocked for guests to enjoy at their leisure, and our guides are reliably equipped with a full cooler for the day’s trout fishing.

Traditionally, meat, and a lot of it, is part of the Argentine diet, and Patagonia is no exception. If this doesn’t sit well with you and your dietary requirements, that’s no problem: just let us know when booking and we’ll create a menu that suits you.

What is included in the fishing package at Casa Quilquihue?

Our fishing packages include guided fly fishing trips, boats, all necessary fishing equipment and fishing licenses. Plus, anglers enjoy all meals and transportation.

Which lakes are accessible from the lodge?

For fishermen, the best part about staying at Casa Quilquihue is the easy access to the best fishing waters in Patagonia, including gin clear lakes. Fly anglers have access to the beautiful Lácar, Falkner, Tromen, Epulafquen, Huechulafquen, Lolog and Paimún lakes. You can also access the majestic Filo Hua Hum Lake if you’re feeling up to a 3-hour round trip: it may be one of our more remote lakes, but it’s well worth the journey to truly escape the modern world.

When is the best time for anglers to visit Patagonia for trout fishing?

Our season runs from November to May, although there is really no best time during the season: this period covers the spring, summer, and fall/autumn in the Southern Hemisphere, offering excellent weather conditions and periods of high fish activity. The rivers and lakes are teeming with life – most commonly rainbow trout, brook trout and brown trout – providing excellent opportunities for fly fishing in different places at different moments of the season. Contact us to tell us exactly what kind of fishing you’re looking for, and we’ll help you narrow down the best time to come.

What type of dry fly fishing gear do you provide for Patagonia trips?

Our guides are equipped with a wide range of flies to match the season, insect life, water conditions and time of day. We always carry dry flies, nymphs and streamers. We provides each angler with all necessary kit and tackle – waders, boots, dry bags, rods, reels and lines – so you can travel light and focus on fishing. Of course, if you prefer, you’re welcome to bring your own equipment.
